Mission Gold Jazz Band

With a name inspired by the golden hills above Fremont’s Mission San Jose, Mission Gold is an eight piece, two cornet band consisting of a variety of multi-talented musicians from all over the Bay Area.

Mission Gold Jazz Band was formed in 1980 and has a long tradition of performing the music of Jelly Roll Morton, King Oliver, Lu Watters and Turk Murphy.  The band plays standards and more common tunes in the swing genre.  The main goal is to please the dancers, strutters, and jazz listeners.

Piano – Virginia Tichenor
Ragtime extraordinaire, piano teacher and music historian

Banjo – Joyce Taylor
Co-leader of the Silicon Gulch Jazz Band, Jam set coordinator for South Bay Jazz Society

Drums – Andy Parker
Long time member of MGJB, played for touring rock bands in his early years

Tuba – Bob Sterling
Retired High School music teacher, Fremont Unified School District

Reeds – Roberto Alfaro
Music teacher in the Hayward Unified School District, known as Bassoon Bob, gigs available … he’ll play

Cornet –  Chris Bradley
Leader of the Chris Bradley Jazz Band, folks have enjoyed his music for decades

Cornet – Noel Weidkamp
Member of the Devil Mountain Jazz Band as-well-as other Bay Area jazz bands

Trombone –  John Soulis
Leader of the MGJB, just have fun getting a chance to play along with these great musicians
